How to tap your creativity

Mindmap © Hans Buskes

I made this mind map after finishing the book by Dave Stewart (yes the musician, ex Eurythmics). A fine book about how to be creative. I like the part about defining bugs of a product in order to innovate it. E.g take an umbrella. One bug is that it is prone to blow inside out (and very often breaking). Dutch company SENZ solved the bug by making an umbrella that works with the wind rather than against it.

Another part I liked is about Stewart and Dylan working together in a period when Dylan was searching for inspiration (early 1990′s). Instead of writing songs Stewart filmed Dylan wandering around Camden Town (London), wearing a 1920′s hat and gathering a group of followers like the Pied Piper. No security, no assistants, only Dylan and Stewart. Stewart’s advice: if your creativity is block, try something completely different as distraction.

Was Stewart responsible for a renewed Dylan in the 1990′s? It just makes me wonder.

Presumably you are referencing Bob’s “Blood in My Eyes” video from 1993. A touching and lovely video, agreed. But it hardly follows that Stewart was then responsible for Dylan’s creative achievements later in the 90s.
