I loved the idea for this map. But I think you should change the term “innovators” to “influential”.
Bob Dylan, for example, is brilliant, but why is he an innovator? He basically started as a Woody Guthrie copycat who later became influenced by rock music.
The only names I’m sure you can call innovators there are Hendrix and Kuti. Hendrix created a new sound for guitar, Kuti created afro-beat. These are innovations.

I know it’s limited to seven, but I believe there must be room for Pete Townshend if only because of the Rock opera Tommy.

Interesting perspective on the pop family tree. Difficult for any two to agree on every catergorization (Paul McCartney under fela kuti?, David Bowie under James Brown?) but the effort is interesting.
Believe it or not. McCartney was influenced by Fela Kuti. Was trying to get Kuti involved in his Band on the Run project.
I think there ought to be an eighth .. namely either muddy waters or robert johnson to leave space for the rolling stones etc
Hi Jeroen the mind map only mentions innovators starting from 1960! You’re right if we would not have that restriction.
