Lehrer’s book on creativity stumbles over Like a rolling stone

As a consultant and admirer of Dylan I had two reasons to buy Jonah Lehrer’s book on creativity (Imagine, I will not write about the outrageous price of the e-book, € 17.99). I am utterly disappointed. Lehrer sloppily cites scientific research and the promise that readers would get insight in Dylan’s writing habits is not fulfilled. Lehrer’s description of Like a rolling stone is reviewed in the Guardian: “The amazing presumption of Lehrer’s description, the shattering banality of its explanation, and its mystifying stupidity are all entirely characteristic of a phenomenon best branded ‘neuroscientism’.” Guardian’s final conclusion? “Something is happening here, but you don’t know what it is – do you, Mr Lehrer?”
