Kaoru Ishikawa developed a cause and effect diagram which became known as the Ishikawa fishbone diagram. Ishikawa used it in quality improvement as an easy and visual tool to pinpoint root problems. In my opinion it belongs to the “family” of mind maps. The Ishikawa mind map in this example is about the five causes responsible for the dropping book sales.
