Tweeter and the monkey man inside out

Tweeter&MonkeyManSome conclusions:

  • this is one of these overlooked Dylan gems
  • there are not many covers of Tweeter and the Monkey Man (and most of the covers are not worth mentioning)
  • there are not many live versions of the song. Dylan never played it live. Petty has the song on the set list of his present tour
  • Tom Petty mentioned in a Rolling Stone interview that he cowrote the song with Dylan
  • For me it is a typical Dylan song, the break <now the town of Jersey city is quieting down again; I’m sitting in a gambling club called the lions den> reminiscent of Black Diamond Bay and the last verse reminiscent of Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts

The Headstones ‘Tweeter’ is superb. A great interpretation of a great song and in the punk tradition that it could translate to effortlessly.
